Smitty’s Family Restaurant in Melfort reopens with new look

Jul 23, 2020 | 10:27 AM

It’s a fresh new look for Smitty’s Family Restaurant in Melfort as they opened their doors to the public once again this morning.

With the closure of the restaurant back in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic, owner Brad Dodds and his staff used the time as an opportunity to do some renovations and freshen up the dining area.

Dodds told northeastNOW the current set-up accommodates public health guidelines set out by the province.

“We have dividers between booths. We have limited seating right now at about 70 per cent capacity and a lot of our longer tables are now down to singles,” Dodds said.

There are hand sanitation stations and all servers will be wearing masks.

“We wanted to just make some changes. It’s a fresh look with new booths and incorporating those COVID protocols,” Dodds said.

The restaurant will have a limited menu for the first while that will include some favourite items.

“We are also offering our local specials like dry ribs and wings, BLT’s and all of that fun stuff,” Dodds said. “With today being Thursday, we are serving borscht.”

Hours of operation are Tuesday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The restaurant will be closed on Monday for the first couple of weeks and hours will be added as needed.

“This way we can sort of ease into it but we are very excited about this reopening, four months is a long time,” he said.
