More storm potential for eastern Saskatchewan
A system that brought tornado warnings and at least one reported touchdown to eastern Alberta and western Saskatchewan Monday night could bring some severe weather to eastern Saskatchewan today.
Alysa Pederson, meteorologist with Environment Canada, said today’s activity will include the Melfort and Humboldt regions, all the way down to Estevan. Prince Albert will be on the western edge of the region at risk.
Storm systems in that region are considered favourable for the development of landspout tornados, which can cause significant damage.
“They’re different. They can be very severe, up to EF-1 damage which is about 150 kilometre per hour winds, but they’re usually not associated with the bigger thunderstorms. They usually just spin up as thunderstorms develop quickly. [Today] that’s generally for Melfort and Humboldt and that area,” Pederson said.
