NEOSS Gets Grant

NEOSS receives grant from United Way of Saskatoon and Area

North East Outreach and Support Services (NEOSS) is one of the recipients of a major grant from the United Way of Saskatoon and Area.

The $25,000 grant is part of the COVID-19 Emergency Community Support Fund through the federal government and the funds for NEOSS will go towards improving technology within the program.

“Very nice for us to increase our services, through the use of technology, to our clients,” Schweitzer told northeastNOW.

The technology includes things like accessing more databases, improving software, and training the staff at NEOSS to use the new technology.

Schweitzer said the technology is much needed for NEOSS and their clients.

“One of the things that was identified through the pandemic, and the closing of our non-essential services, was the need for our staff to be able to still connect with our clients through technology,” she said. “So, it’s going to definitely give us some bigger, better ways to do that.”

Having more technology like this will help NEOSS expand, according to Schweitzer. She said this can help their staff on the ground expand to more remote areas. Keeping the client and staff members safe, as well as keeping some more anonymity were other positives.

Schweitzer said through the COVID-19 pandemic, they’ve worked very well with what they had when it comes to technology.

“I think with the technology that we had available to us, I think our staff has done a second to none job in providing service to our clients,” she said. “We have been busy throughout, since the start of this, it hasn’t really slowed down at all.”

The doors of NEOSS are open, and the staff are working. Schweitzer said the crisis line is open 24/7 as well and that anyone experiencing crisis is welcome to call.
