Nipawin Kin playground at Pinedale Park caps off nearly six years of work

Newer, different, and bigger than what was there before.

That was the inspiration for the Nipawin Kinettes when they envisioned a new play structure at Pinedale Park.

“We just wanted to see something new, different, and bigger than what we do have in the community already… It was great to replace the equipment that was in the park that’s been there for a few years. Even taking my kids there, they just love playing in it,” Nipawin Kinettes Treasurer Chrystan Mutimer said.

The Pinedale/Kin Park opened to the public in late July but took nearly six years of planning and fundraising to make it all work. Mutimer said the Kinettes held fundraisers such as New Year’s Cabarets and magic shows during that stretch. Community partners, including the Kinsmen, the Town of Nipawin, and local businesses, got on board for the cause.

Nearly one month into its existence, Mutimer said feedback from the park has been positive, with features such as the zipline, twirl slide, and fitness equipment being the biggest attractions.

With its biggest item off their bucket list, Mutimer said the Kinettes aren’t sure what’s next amidst the coronavirus pandemic, with future fundraisers in question.

Only the Kinettes’ traditional yearly donations are still on the agenda, but Mutimer said they’re always up for new projects and donating money within the Nipawin community where it’s needed.

“If [groups] ever need money financially, they’re always welcome to come ask us for a donation,” Mutimer said.
