Curling Canada asking for feedback from curlers, Melfort Club set to open for season

Aug 22, 2020 | 8:00 AM

Curling Canada is looking for some feedback from curlers as to how the curling season should look in 2020/2021.

The survey asks a number of questions including how someone is feeling about playing this year, whether they would play no matter what, with restrictions, or not at all. It also asks how you would like to see curling be played under the COVID-19 pandemic circumstances and protocols.

The survey has been out for a couple of weeks and Melfort Curling Club Board Member Kerrie De Gooijer said so far response has looked good.

“In general, curlers are intending to play this fall,” she said. “And as for the Melfort Curling Club itself, we’ve had some very preliminary discussions and we do plan on opening up this season.”

De Gooijer said around 85 per cent of people have said they will be curling this year. She said as more responses from the survey come in, she said they’ll hopefully begin to learn more about how the game will look.

“One option is two-person teams, no sweeping, or four-person teams, only one sweeper,” she said. “There’s a few different scenarios that could be done.”

In the coming weeks, CurlSask is expected to releases their guidelines for safe curling this year. At that point, De Gooijer said the board will then get together to get a more concrete plan on the season.
