Melfort Dairy Queen hosting Miracle Treat Day

The Melfort Dairy Queen is going forward with Miracle Treat Day on Monday.

The restaurant will be closed for dine-in and take-out in an effort to keep the number of people down for the safety of customers and staff.

Owner Cassie Davis said all funds raised in Saskatchewan on Miracle Treat Day stay in Saskatchewan for the Children’s Miracle Network.

“The funds will go towards the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation so in previous years it went towards the building of the children’s hospital and now it goes toward keeping it up and running,” Davis said.

Miracle Treat Day was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but Davis said she knew the staff could run the event in a different, safe way while keeping it as traditional as possible.

The drive-thru will be open for blizzard treat sales from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Letters were also sent to businesses in the community who may want to place larger orders of blizzards and are offering them delivery.

“Dairy Queen Canada is working on something for October but it won’t look like a standard Miracle Treat Day, it will be more based on cake sales,” Davis said.

Coupons are also available for purchase that day to redeem at a later date and it will still count towards the proceeds donated.

“We are so grateful to Melfort for always supporting our cause and for getting behind us through the pandemic,” Davis said.

Last year’s Miracle Treat Day brought in over $7,000 with the previous two years each bringing in around $5,000.
