The Carlton Trail College Board of Directors has a new chair.

Adrienne Jackson has signed on as board chair for a two-year term. Jackson resides in Wynyard and said being from rural Saskatchewan, she wants to be a part of the continued growth of the college.

“Sometimes people out in rural Saskatchewan get a little bit forgotten about in the education system,” Jackson told northeastNOW. “And it’s important that we have educational opportunities close to home and that our students success has a direct impact on their own local economies.”

She said right now, the main topic of conversation is safe integration back into schools. She said with the current uncertain times, she’s happy that she gets to work with the senior staff at the college to work through this.

She added they have a focused need on local students, communities, their local First Nations, and stakeholders.

“We’re just focussed on listening to what our stakeholders needs are,” Jackson said. “And being responsive to our local and regional needs.”

In a release, Carlton Trail College President and CEO, Shelley Romanyszyn-Cross said she’s pleased to welcome Jackson to her new position.

“While this has been a challenging year for all of us,” she said. “I’m confident that Adrienne’s leadership, along with our board’s breadth of expertise, experience and skill, will ensure that the college is in a strong position to continue providing responsive, high-quality education and training for our region.”

Jackson joined the college board in 2018 and has experience at various Universities through her pursuit of education including at the Universities of Saskatchewan, Alberta, and Toronto. Outside of her position as board chair, Jackson is the owner and operator of Living Skies Catering.
