Kerry Vickar Centre and Northern Lights Palace expand to scheduled public events
Doors at the Kerry Vickar Centre and Northern Lights Palace in Melfort haven’t completely swung open to the public yet, but recreational activities have become more accessible.
The City of Melfort announced late on Sept. 2 that both facilities can now run scheduled public events and register participants for activities. Brent Lutz, Melfort’s director of development planning and community relations, said attendance depends on the type of activities or events, as regulations vary.
“[Sports] restrictions are guided by the maximum indoor gathering regulations, which is 30,” Lutz said. “Things like weddings or theatrical performances – things in the Kerry Vickar Centre’s CJVR Performing Arts Theatre – are guided by other directives. We can have up to 30 per cent seating occupied and that will also provide for the appropriate social distancing.”
Amenities such as lobbies and public washrooms will only be accessible for participants who are registered in the events. Lutz said city staff will conduct additional sanitization procedures – including atomizers – for contact surfaces and spaces before and after they’re used.
