Humboldt District Hospital installs new equipment, foundation launches new campaign

The Humboldt District Hospital Foundation (HDHF) has installed some new equipment.

PIXYS is an automated medication management system at the Humboldt District Hospital worth $404,000.

Executive Director Lorrie Bunko said the systems are located in the emergency department and three stations in the inpatient wing of the hospital.

“It is amazing to know that this is the new way of distributing medications to patients in an extremely safe manner and efficient,” Bunko said.

The project had been in the works for quite some time according to Bunko and it has been funded by the HDHF over five years.

“We had the option to buy or lease and we went with the lease because it is more economic and we don’t have to deal with the breakdowns,” Bunko said. “The Saskatchewan Health Authority will take the lease over on year six.”

The money has been set aside with budgeting over the next five years to ensure the $92,000 payment is available.

The system stores all types of medications and those authorized to use the system can safely dispense the correct amount of medication for the correct patient at the right time. A fingerprint ID is needed to access the system.

The HDHF is moving onto to its cardiac equipment campaig and the goal is to raise $350,000 by April of 2022.

“The foundation was ready to commit to raising those funds prior to COVID happening and we still believe that we need those funds in,” Bunko said. “Many people rely on our emergency department and having cardiac equipment available.”

Rona in Humboldt has the Rona/Lowes Heroes campaign launched yesterday where Lowes corporate will match all donations up to $2,000. Customers at Rona can purchase a badge for $2, $5, or $10 throughout the month of September.

“At the end of the month, we will tally up and hopefully we can reach that $2,000 mark to get matched,” Bunko said.

The COVID-19 pandemic has put a delay and stop to most fundraisers with all of the restrictions in place.

“We are going to focus on communication in the district and letting them know what equipment is needed,” Bunko said. “We hope people will give from their heart and think of us in their annual giving.”
