Communities in Full Colour

Carrot River Co-op looking for local organizations to receive donated paint

Sep 17, 2020 | 5:28 PM

Carrot River Co-op hasn’t had issues finding interested parties to apply for the Communities in Full Colour Program prior to 2020.

The KCRA Rodeo, Carrot River’s community centre and community hall, schools, churches, and others have received donated paint from the federated cooperative program in the past three years.

Holly Wiens, Carrot River Co-op home and building supplies manager, said they have $1,800 worth of paint that was allocated to them through paint sales that they can donate. However, a year with a global pandemic has made finding a recipient more difficult.

“We’ve had to reach out to a lot of organizations about this program,” Wiens told northeastNOW. “With COVID-19 this year… a lot of the extra curricular programs weren’t operating, so we didn’t have anybody coming in asking about the program this year. That’s why we’re reaching out before our deadline so we can give away this free paint.”

The two biggest projects that benefited from the Communities in Full Colour program are the KCRA Rodeo’s bleacher and building upgrades and town arena nearly being completed re-painted. Wiens said other communities including Arborfield, Red Earth Cree Nation, and Cumberland House have received paint through the program.

“It saves the taxpayers dollars and helps the town’s budget,” she said. “It gets our paint program out there, so people can work with our paint and love it as much as we do.”

Organizations can apply online or call Carrot River Co-op’s hardware department prior to Oct. 15.
