Gronlid hall fundraising continues with another drive-thru supper

Oct 1, 2020 | 11:53 AM

The Gronlid Willing Workers will continue fundraising efforts for the community hall with another drive-thru supper this month.

The group typically hosts a trade show in November but decided to go the drive-thru supper route last weekend which was a huge success according to President Jackie Tluchak.

“We had 285 meals ordered and everyone showed up to pick them up,” Tluchak said. “We netted $4,285.”

With it being the first fall supper for the group, Tluchak said they only expected to serve around 100 meals.

“The orders kept rolling over the last couple of days so we actually had to turn people away which we regret but once you buy the food, your hands are kind of tied,” Tluchak said. “If they were disappointed, we hope they support the next one.”

The next drive-thru supper will be Oct. 24 from 4 to 6 p.m., and the menu will be parmesan chicken, baked potato, vegetables, salad, bun and dessert for $15.

Pre-orders need to be in by Oct. 20, by calling Tluchak at 306-921-7255 or Karen at 306-921-6442.

There will also be borscht for sale for $6 a liter on a first come, first serve basis.

“We have sold borscht at our fall trade fair so it’s not the first time people have tasted it and we hope they enjoy it enough to come buy it at the supper,” Tluchak said.

The goal for the upcoming supper is the 100 to 150 meal range.

All of the funds raised will go to the maintenance of the hall and replacing the roof which they hope to get done in the spring.

This will be last fundraiser put on by the group this year, and will plan something for the spring.

“As a small hall that isn’t used as often as it was at one time, you have to keep the maintenance up and that is what we are trying to do,” she said.

All covid rules including social distancing will be in effect in the pick-up line. Only 20 people will be allowed inside at one time with about 10 volunteers on hand as well.
