Mustangs starting to sell season tickets for SJHL season

The Melfort Mustangs are getting set for a Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League season, whenever that may be.

Starting on Monday, Oct. 5, the team will be selling their season tickets for the 2020/2021 season. There’s still no official word yet on when a season will begin but the team has been making sure a season can be conducted safely in the Northern Lights Palace. Director of Business and Marketing Jaret Schneider said they have to be very aware when it comes to social distancing.

“Whether it’s every second row, or two seats between season ticket holders,” he said. “We have to have all of our ducks in a row here to sell tickets.”

There’s no official decision on what capacity will be yet, and it will be a fluid number, but Schneider believes around 35 per cent is a good place to start and work around with season ticket holders. He said with only certain rows and seats available, some season ticket holders will have to adjust their seats, but hopefully only for one season.

“Capacity is limited, that’s the big thing,” Schneider told northeastNOW. “We have an 1,800 seat facility, but we cannot put 1,800 people in here.”

Season ticket renewals will have first crack at seats this season, and everyone else is encouraged to get to the Mustang office as soon as possible to reserve their seats for the season. Starting Monday, the Mustang office will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. for season ticket purchase. Pricing is the same as the previous season as the SJHL is expecting to play a full 58 game season in 2020/2021.

Those going to purchase tickets are to enter through the north doors on Crawford Avenue. Tickets can also be purchased over the phone by calling 306-752-2799.

Meanwhile, another adjustment that is going to be made this season is mask use in the facility.

“Anyone that enters the Northern Lights Palace will have to wear a mask, and they’ll have to wear a mask through the duration of the hockey game,” Schneider said. “It’s not really where we want to go, but it’s things we have to do to get the players back on the ice.”

The team will be selling different styles of Mustang branded masks this year as well for $20 per mask, and they can be purchased at the Mustang office.
