Melfort Columbarium

Third columbarium installed at Mount Pleasant Cemetery

Residents in Melfort and area with cremated loved ones will have more room to mourn and remember.

A new, 72-niche columbarium was installed at Mount Pleasant Cemetery by the City of Melfort and Fedusiak Funeral Chapel and Crematorium.

It’s the third columbarium at the cemetery, with the two being installed in 2006 and 2012 respectively. Darren Fedusiak, owner of Fedusiak Funeral Chapel and Crematorium, said there were a few niches remaining in the second columbarium, but it was time to give residents more options for the placement of urns after the demand has increased.

“One spot in the columbarium can be used for one individual or a couple,” Fedusiak said. “Prior to the columbarium… cemetery plots were purchased, and urns were in the ground and the headstone marker would need to be purchased. With the columbarium, only a door has to be designed. We work with each family to personalize the lettering and design.”
