Humboldt council contender wants to put focus on economic growth

Economic growth is a main focus for Michaela Fetter who is one of seven women in the running for city council in Humboldt.

Fetter believes her experience as a human resource and safety professional will be a great addition to bring to the table.

“People are my passion and seeing people do better, those things motivate me,” Fetter said. “Seeing things grow and making everyday lives easier is why I am in the field that I am in, and that is why I am running for council.”

Fetter grew up in Watson and has always believed in shopping in her home community, or commuting to Humboldt for things that weren’t available in Watson. She has lived in Humboldt for the past 10 years

“I’ve kind of always considered getting into politics and then Rob Muench actually reached out to me and thought I might be a good fit,” Fetter said. “I think I could make a difference and empower not only women but younger people to step forward.”

Perspectives from all walks on council is important to Fetter.

“Creating that diverse council, women, men, and their experience,” Fetter said. “Whether or not I get in, I just want to inspire those my age to take action and if you think you can do something, just go and do it.”

Along with focusing on economic growth, infrastructure replacement and building upon progress and momentum from current council are all things that Fetter believes are important in Humboldt.

Fetter will be campaigning on social media ahead of the Saskatchewan municipal election on Nov. 9.
