Harpauer to serve another term as MLA for Humboldt-Watrous

Donna Harpauer of the Saskatchewan Party will represent the Humboldt-Watrous constituency once again.

According to Harpauer, election day is always exciting and humbling to know constituents are putting their faith in her for four more years.

“I have a responsibility over the next four years, and I’m looking forward to it,” Harpauer said. “The ballot question was who do you trust to manage the economic recovery of our province, and I’m looking forward to that task.”

Harpauer won the Watrous riding for the Sask. Party in 1999 and then Humboldt in 2003. After the riding dissolved, she won Humboldt-Watrous in 2016.

Harpauer told northeastNOW there wasn’t any doubt in her mind how the vote would go.

“People were starting to question as to how they were going to pay for the NDP promises and they were looking at our record,” Harpauer said. “Our record has been very solid of growth within our province in population and job creation in building schools and hospitals.”

Provisional results indicated Harpauer had the most votes while Wendy Sekulich of the NDP had the second most votes in the riding.

As the finance minister for Saskatchewan, Harpauer said the economic recovery of the province is not going to be immediate and the party hopes to balance the budget by 2024.

“We promised we would do that without tax increases but rather by growing the economy and so that is what we need to do and that is what we are going to work on going forward,” Harpauer said.

Harpauer was joined on election day and night with two of her daughters, four of her grandchildren and her partner.

In the nearby constituency of Wadena-Kelvington, Hugh Nerlein of the SaskParty had the most votes while the NDP’s Linda Patenaude placed second.
