Drive-Through Halloween

Humboldt chamber holding ‘Social Distancing Drive-Through’ for Halloween

The Humboldt and District Chamber of Commerce has teamed up with the local Business Improvement District (BID) and Big Brothers Big Sisters to provide a socially distanced Halloween event for kids in the community.

The groups will be holding a ‘Drive-Through’ trick-or-treat event on Saturday, Oct. 31. Chamber Executive Director Brent Fitzpatrick said there was a little bit of concern with children coming in and out of various businesses on Halloween with the COVID-19 pandemic, so some ideas were thrown around and a drive through type idea came to be. Fitzpatrick said the business community support has been overwhelming with the amount they are supporting.

The event will have families drive up to the chamber building with their children.

“However many kids they’ve got, we’re going to pass them a bag of treats,” Fitzpatrick said.

Volunteers will be masked when handing out candy and it will be done by tongs of sorts to help keep the touching of the bags to a minimum. Fitzpatrick added that they are getting the bags together tomorrow so they can sit for 72 hours before handing out.

He said with Halloween being a fun time for kids, they wanted to give them something fun to do, even during a difficult time in a pandemic.

“If this is something, a little thing that the chamber and the BID can do for kids,” Fitzpatrick told northeastNOW. “Then let’s do it, and the business community has just chimed in and said ‘let’s go.'”

People from BBBS will also be around to help, and there will be a silver collection as well to help raise fund for the organization.

“Like all organizations in our area, they were financially hit with COVID, and the ramifications from that, as was the chamber, as was the BID,” Fitzpatrick said. “But if this is something that we can do that will help them, and help kids at the same time, it just seems like a win-win.”

The event will run from 1 to 4 p.m.
