The Saskatchewan Party’s Hugh Nerlien will serve another term as MLA for The Kelvington-Wadena constituency.

Nerlien assumed office for the Sask. Party in the 2016 general election, and has claimed his second term as MLA.

“This one was very fascinating to watch because there were a lot of close ridings,” Nerlien said. “I am very excited and honoured by the support I got.”

He called it an interesting night and an interesting next couple of days until final results are tallied.

Results without mail-in ballots show Nerlien with 4,515 of the votes while the NDP has 1,122.

“I find it a great pleasure to reach out and chat with constituents about what they have on their mind,” Nerlien said. “It’s not always issues and concerns but quite often they talk about opportunity as well.”

Focus on rural connectivity will continue for Nerlien when it comes to internet and cellphone service as well as highways and infrastructure.

The election campaign itself was also very interesting and different according to Nerlien with not being able to attend things like fall suppers and gatherings to interact with constituents.

“For me personally in this campaign the biggest issue was the inability to shake hands, because I very much believe in the value of a handshake,” Nerlien said.

The Saskatchewan Party under leader Scott Moe will form its fourth straight majority government.

“With our plans for the future I think and hope that folks will be pleased with what we do over the years and quite looking forward to being part of it,” Nerlien said.
