Melfort Trade Alliance holds annual general meeting, elects new board

Oct 28, 2020 | 4:33 PM

The Melfort Trade Alliance (MTA) elected a new board at their annual general meeting on Tuesday night and are one step closer to becoming a Chamber of Commerce.

MTA President Tyler Fahlman told northeastNOW they are now looking to fill five committees.

“One is Membership, recruitment, and outreach, the next is business advocacy, third one is promotional and networking, fourth one is business grant and tenders and the fifth one is social media,” Fahlman said.

According to Fahlman, the new board will meet in the coming weeks to get things in order to become a chamber in 2021.

The new board now consists of Fahlman, Dean Wallace, Heidi Brignall, Victor Kernaleguen, Darin Bandyga, Whitney Rogers, Julie Lacroix, Doug Armstrong, and Raianne Praski.

Any business that became a member of the MTA before the end of the year will be a founding member of the Chamber of Commerce.

“The only thing we have left to do is hash out how we want our bylaws written,” Fahlman said. “The bylaws need to be submitted to the Saskatchewan Chamber to be approved.”

Once approved by the provincial Chamber, the MTA would be welcomed as an associated of the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce in turn making the group a Chamber of Commerce for the Melfort area.

The MTA hosted the Melfort All Candidate’s Forum last Wednesday ahead of the municipal election coming up on Nov. 9.

Fahlman said there are some things on the horizon for the holiday season but those details will be released in the coming weeks.
