Carrot River’s council changed but some familiar faces remain.

Coun. Dennis Letendre won the mayoral race with 153 votes, ahead of fellow councillor, Mike Livermore, by 40.

No incumbent councillors seeking re-election for council lost their seats. Chad Trombley, Dylan Borody, and Neal Waska won re-election, while Chris Bergen, Al Frecon, and Carrie Neigel will join the chambers.

“I think they are all great people and I think that we will do real good with them,” Letendre said.

Letendre said other than the learning curve ahead, he plans to connect more with the residents of Carrot River and keep taxes as low as possible.

“I feel that we have failed a lot in connecting with the public so that’s a big focus,” Letendre said.

After being approached by different citizens including the MLA wanting him to put his name forward was when Letendre decided to get in the running for the position of mayor.

“I thought I would just give it a whirl, if people have confidence in me then why not,” Letendre said.

He said he is still sorting out his feelings of being elected right now as he’s still answering congratulatory calls days after the municipal election.

“Those other calls will start coming in with people having things they want to discuss and issues with things happening but I am looking forward to it,” Letendre said.

When it comes to the COVID-19 pandemic, Letendre said all businesses have remained up and running but he is concerned about prices of products and the effects it will have on construction in the area.

“I can’t see much new construction happening until things settle out, especially not if it costs twice the price to build a house this year as it did last year,” Letendre said.

Letendre replaces Ila Boehm who finished with the least number of votes in the mayoral race with 37 votes.
