Wright’s Greenhouse downsizing to one location with sale of Melfort property

The Wright’s Greenhouse location in Melfort has sold but will remain open in Beatty in the spring.

Plants from Wright’s will still be available at George Home Hardware in Melfort in the spring as well.

Owner Angie Bragg told northeastNOW they simply wanted to downsize.

“My parents are getting older and it’s just getting harder for us to run both places so one location is just easier for us to do,” Bragg said.

The possession date for the new owner of the property is Jan. 15 so the last day of business in Melfort for the greenhouse is Dec. 24. The building and greenhouses will be dismantled to make way for a new building.

The spring and summer of 2020 was the best year of business for the greenhouse so Bragg is hopeful that trend will continue in the future at the Beatty location.

Wright’s Greenhouse has been in operation in Melfort for around 40 years and at the current location for the past 10.

“It will be a big change for sure but all things need to change,” Bragg said. “You just have to move with the times and it is time for us to not have two locations.”

Wright’s started out at the Melfort Mall and then on Sask. Ave beside the Salvation Army before moving to their current location.

In January, Bragg and her staff will begin their baby plants to get prepared for spring.

All of the stock that doesn’t sell before their closing date such as decor and supplies that is currently in the building will be moved to Beatty.

“We have had tremendous support in Melfort over the years and it is definitely bitter-sweet,” Bragg said.
