The Melfort Mustangs continue to add players to their 2021/2022 team.

The team announced 2003-born defenceman Zach Stangness has committed to the Mustangs for the next season.

The 6-3, 190 lbs. rearguard out of Strathmore, Alta. began the 2020/2021 season with the Okotoks Oilers in Alberta U18 AAA. Stangness tallied one assist in five games played before the season was put on pause due to COVID-19.

In the 2019/2020 season, Stangness played for the Wheatland Chiefs in the Alberta U18 AA ranks. He scored two goals and added 12 assists for 14 points in 31 games. He also added 54 penalty minutes.

“Zach is a player that will be great in our own zone. He’s big, strong, and a tough defender,” Mustangs head coach and general manager Trevor Blevins said in a recent press release. “He’s got a lot of upside and will be hard to play against.”
