Water Main Break

Hudson Bay residents being asked to conserve water after break on weekend

Feb 16, 2021 | 12:22 PM

A water main break in the Town of Hudson Bay has affected all residents in the town.

The break on Railway Avenue between Prince Street and Albert Street was first reported on Feb. 13 as water was seen flowing in the street. Crews were able to get things under control and now the town is asking residents to conserve their water for the next few days as crews work to repair the break.

“It’s an isolated area that was affected,” town administrator Teresa Parkman said. “But in the end, we did turn down water pressure for the whole town just to try and conserve as much water as we could.”

The Hudson Bay water treatment plant only has a certain amount of water and it needs to make more, Parkman said. The break caused some water loss and the plant needs to try and keep up with water production.

There’s not a concrete timeline as of right now for repairs, but Parkman is hoping that they can get done by the end of the day on Feb. 16. Residents are asked to conserve water for the next few days as a precaution.

It’s not known at this time if the cold weather was the cause, but Parkman said it was likely a contributing factor. Crews did have some initial issues with valves due to the cold as well.

Parkman said there’s been lots of support from residents for the public works staff who are out working in the cold.

“Huge shout-out to our community and their patience with us,” she said.
