COVID-19 case at elementary school in Watrous and at Co-op Food Store

The Horizon School Division (HSD) is making the public aware of a COVID-19 case at Watrous Elementary School.

The division was notified Sunday night of the case and families from the school were being informed with contact tracing underway.

Public health has cleared students to continue attending the school, unless families have been directed otherwise.

On Feb. 17, HSD was informed of a COVID-19 diagnosis in an individual at Winston High School in Watrous as well. The school has remained open to staff and students.

Elsewhere in the community of Watrous, a Saskatoon Co-op employee also tested positive for COVID-19.

The team member from the Watrous Food Store is self-isolating and any other employees that are considered close contacts are being asked to self-isolate.

In an updated release on Feb. 22, the employee worked at the Watrous Food Store on Feb. 16 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Feb. 17 and 18 from 8:45 a to 5:45, and on Feb. 19 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Co-op stated in a release they are working closely with the Saskatchewan Health Authority and will continue with the health and safety measures put in place in response to the pandemic, including mask usage, enhanced cleaning and sanitizing, physical distancing, and asking all employees to stay at home when experiencing symptoms even when they are mild.

As a precaution, a Watrous restaurant has decided to shut their doors while there are increasing cases in the area.
