The Melfort Mustangs have gone way out west for their latest commitment.

Dylan Franklin, a 2002-born forward, has committed to the Mustangs for the 2021/2022 season.

The Lake Cowichan, B.C. product began the 2020/2021 season with the Campbell River Storm in the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League (VIJHL) which is the B.C. Junior B ranks. In 13 games this season, Franklin scored eight goals and added another eight assists for 16 points. He was tied for ninth in league scoring at the time of the pause.

“Dylan is a very well rounded player who does all the right things.” Mustangs head coach and general manager Trevor Blevins said in a release. “He has a lot of speed and skill and has had a successful 2020-21 season. He will be a great add to our program this fall.”

Franklin was traded in January to the Victoria Cougars, but has yet to play a game as the league remains on pause.

In the 2019/2020 season, Franklin played 15 games with the Storm where he scored six goals and had one assist for seven points. He also suited up for five games with the Storm in 2018/2019 while attending Pacific Coast Academy in Victoria but was held scoreless.
