Activities to take part in over the Easter break in Melfort

Apr 2, 2021 | 12:00 PM

Easter weekend looks to be quiet for the second year in a row due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but families can still enjoy the outdoors.

The City of Melfort has set up an Easter geocache activity that will run until next Wednesday.

Recreation Programmer Shannon Marshall said this is a great family activity to Play Melfort this weekend.

“The first coordinates are up on our Facebook page, so simply put those into a GPS device or Google maps and you’re off on the adventure,” Marshall said.

Great news! The bunny arrived in Melfort and has hidden the geocache eggs. Here are the first coordinates- so have fun! 🐰

Easter eggs have been hidden around the community with each egg containing coordinates and a clue for the next location.

“Once you’ve reached the last Easter Egg, there are instructions on how to enter for the grand prize draw,” Marshall said.

The draw will be made on April 6.

“Get out, have fun and explore more in Melfort this Easter weekend,” Marshall said.

The Kerry Vickar Centre (KVC) Swartout Hall is currently closed to the public for vaccine clinics, therefore, a schedule for walking is unavailable. Urban Walking poles can be signed out for use outdoors until the KVC can re-open for the walking program.

Elsewhere in Melfort, the Marguerite Riel Centre has Easter activities next week while students are out of school.

There will be bingo, cookie decorating, bannock making, and a pancake breakfast.

The Melfort Public Library is closed Friday to Monday, and will then re-open for regular hours.

April is National Poetry Month and the library is asking local poets to submit their new or previous work by April 10. This year’s theme is resilience.
