Service to honour Humboldt Broncos to be livestreamed

Apr 4, 2021 | 4:50 PM

A tribute service to honour the 2017-18 Humboldt Broncos will take place virtually Tuesday on the third anniversary of the tragic bus crash.

The service will be live-streamed on the City of Humboldt’s Facebook page at 4:30 p.m.

The team’s family members and the City of Humboldt are collaborating to make the service possible.

The service will include a candle lighting ceremony and live performances by local musicians at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Humboldt but will be closed to the public.

A moment of silence and tolling of the church bells will also take place at around 4:50 p.m. to mark the approximate time of the crash.

“We encourage bells to be tolled in all communities and to observe a moment of silence at the same approximate moment, if possible,” a city statement read.

Humboldt Mayor Michael Behiel has declared April 6th, 2021 as “2017-18 Humboldt Broncos Day” in the community.

“We are tremendously grateful for everyone who will take a moment on April 6 to remember the tragedy that struck home for so many people,” Behiel said in the release. “In turn, we are thinking of all of those who have been affected not only by this tragedy but by the pandemic that has claimed so many lives in the past year. It is times like these that we need one another. Always believe there is hope and remain resilient.”
