City of Melfort reminding residents to keep vehicles out of parks, respect facilities

Apr 5, 2021 | 5:00 PM

Damage to the Spruce Haven Park soccer pitches has the City of Melfort reminding residents motorized vehicles are not permitted in park areas.

On Sunday night, shortly after 7 p.m., a report was made about two motorbikes in the Spruce Haven Park.

Facility Operations manager Leonard Whitney said when he went to investigate the report, he did see the motorbikes in the area.

“We didn’t actually see them on the soccer pitches but the tracks were there,” Whitney said. “When they saw that I was out looking at the soccer pitches, both of the bikes took off.”

More than anything, Whitney wants to get the word out to the public vehicles shouldn’t be in these types of areas, in order to keep facilities in top shape.

Whitney is hoping the tracks that were made don’t pose too many issues or extra work for city crews.

“We will see if the grass comes or not or if we have to go re-seed in the tracks,” Whitney said. “It’s tough to say at this point how bad it is but there definitely will be some maintenance to be taken care of out there.”

Any other similar incidents that may occur such as this should be reported to the city.
