Melfort Kin clubs participating in provincial online Chase the Ace

Kinsmen and Kinette clubs in Saskatchewan are collaborating to host one giant online Chase the Ace draw.

Ticket sales began on April 1 with the first draw taking place this Wednesday evening at 8 p.m.

The Melfort clubs are excited to be part of the event that will run like any other chase the ace draw, Melfort Kinsmen member Derek Erickson told northeastNOW .

“Weekly winners are going to receive 20 percent of current weekly sales and if they select the envelope containing the ace of spades, they win the growing jackpot” Erickson said.

The jackpot will start at a minum of $5,000 and grow from there each week until the ace has been drawn.

Tickets are available at kinchasetheace.com where there is a drop-down menu containing all participating kin clubs.

“Our Melfort Kinsmen and Kinettes have a drop-down spot there so if you select that it will then direct you on how to purchase tickets,” Erickson said.

Tickets are $10 each, 10 for $20, or 50 for $50 and will be sent via email. Anyone in the province is eligible to buy tickets and has the option to support their local participating kin club.

A Chase the Ace draw has been hosted in Melfort in previous years but with the current public health restrictions in place, the in-person event hasn’t been possible for the committee since last March.

The online event will help to fill some voids for the local clubs.

“We have been unable to do some of our other major events such as steak and lobster night and the Roosters hockey tournament that brings in money for different projects in our community,” Erickson said.

Community projects that the Melfort Kin support are minor football, archery, scholarships, STARS helipad, North East Outreach and Support Services, Girl Guides, Legion, Elks, Golf and Country Club, Curling Club, the North East SPCA, city beautification projects, as well as building play parks.

“Any money that gets generated in our community stays in our community,” Erickson said. “The biggest thing for us is to make sure the community is accessible for everyone to enjoy.”

The Melfort Kinsmen are in the midst of their hockey draft and the monthly trip of the month draw continues as well.

Nipawin, Jansen, St. Brieux and Prince Albert Kin clubs are also participating.
