Warm up shack to be moved from Carrot River outdoor rink to fire hall

Apr 9, 2021 | 5:00 PM

The warm up shack at the outdoor rink by Carrot River Elementary School will be moved to the fire hall in the community.

Carrot River town council made the decision after reviewing a written recommendation from the recreation board to consider removing the shack due to public safety concerns.

“It was being misused over the last couple years,” town administrator Brennan Hall said. “Older teens and young adults were going in there to do unlawful activities and you have young kids coming to utilize it the correct way and they were crossing paths. We were finding drug paraphernalia. It’s not something we want happening within our community.”

Council has authorized administration to move the building.

“It’s locked up right now,” Hall said. “It’s still sitting on the property. It’s not being used right now. We will be working on getting that moved probably within the next month. We’re waiting until the weather is a bit nicer.”

The Carrot River Lions Club originally had a group of volunteers put the shack at the rink.

“We got ahold of the club and they said they had no use for it,” Hall said. “They thought that it going to the fire department was a great idea.”

The fire department is currently planning to use the shack as a storage shed.

“Our fire chief mentioned that he could put it to good use,” Hall said. “It’s all in his hands now.”

The rink will stay at the same location and council is considering adding a gazebo or benches.
