CARROT RIVER votes

Two candidates enter Carrot River mayoral race

Apr 16, 2021 | 4:07 PM

Carrot River residents will soon be heading to the polls to elect their next mayor.

The position opened up when Dennis Letendre resigned in March due to health concerns.

Roman Charko and Dylan Borody have submitted nomination papers to fill the position.

The byelection has been scheduled for May 12 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Carrot River Community Hall.

Advance voting will take place at the town office on April 28 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The elected mayor’s term will run until November 2024.

Dylan Borody

Borody has been a councillor in Carrot River since 2018 and was appointed as the acting mayor during the March 23 council meeting.

He works at Edgewood Forest Products as a kiln operator and has served on several committees.

Borody is Carrot River’s deputy fire chief and was previously interim fire chief.

If elected, Borody said he wants to make sure the community is financially responsible while maintaining the best service possible.

“I want us to plan for the future,” Borody added. “I have an interest in being the mayor because I would like to see our community grow and be the best that it can be. It’s a very welcoming community. That’s something that money can’t buy. It’s great place to raise a family.”

Roman Charko

Charko was a councillor for the Rural Municipality of Moose Range for 20 years and has spent nearly 50 years farming.

He is the vice-president for the Saskatchewan side of the Gateway Keewatin Corridor Inc. and serves on the Hudson Bay Route Association.

Charko has also been involved with multiple other committees and commissions.

Charko said he would try to bring more businesses into the town and make the community stronger and more viable if he is elected.

“I have the energy to do it,” Charko said. “Ratepayers have asked me to put my name in. I have experience. I have integrity. I’ve always been interested in politics. This is a great community to live in. It’s got a lot of potential and good citizens supporting the community.”
