Wadena Fire Department receives $25,000 donation for crew truck

The Wadena Volunteer Fire Department has added a truck to its fleet thanks to a generous donation.

Wadena Farmers and Friends donated $25,000 to help the fire department purchase a 2017 Ford F-350 one-ton truck with a flat deck.

“They [Wadena Farmers and Friends] had heard that we were trying to save money for this project and they came forward and helped us out very generously,” Wadena Volunteer Fire Department chief Harold Narfason said. “This is a great advantage. Fire is a big risk for farmers.”

The Wadena and District Fire Association covered the remaining cost of the nearly $60,000 truck.

“We’ve been saving for this for probably 10 years or more,” Narfason said. “It’s fully stocked and ready to go at any time. The truck is very essential for grass fires and pulling our ATV and the STARS fuel trailer that Wadena has. We’ve committed to go wherever STARS needs us to provide fuel.”

Members of the fire department were previously pulling the fuel trailer with their personal vehicles.

Narfason said the fire department is currently doing quite well with around 21 members.
