LeRoy’s Carter Timmerman to join golf team and attend college in Ontario

Carter Timmerman from LeRoy will be attending college and joining the golf team at Sault College in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. next fall.

The 17-year-old said he began playing golf at a very young age, learning the game from his grandfather.

“I competed a little bit when I was six or seven,” Timmerman said. “I got serious about competing about five years ago when I joined the Maple Leaf Junior Tour (MJT) and started entering tournaments.”

On top of the MJT, he also competes in the Junior Lobstick and provincial championships. He has a career-best fourth place finish at the Saskatoon Junior Open in 2019 plus a 10^th spot overall in the Junior Lobstick in the same year.

Over the summer and after completing his grade 12 year at LeRoy High School, Timmerman plans to work on his consistency in scores as he completes his junior career.

“I have a really busy schedule, golfing as much as I can and will keep working with my coaches and hopefully get better as I go,” Timmerman said.

The realization of college golf being a possibility for Timmerman came after seeing that fellow golfers will also be golfing at a college level.

“Our scores are pretty similar so I thought I would give it a try,” Timmerman said.

The Sault College Cougars play in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association and Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association and won a national bronze medal for golf in 2018.

“I can’t wait to meet my team and see what the school and competition is like down in Ontario,” Timmerman said.

Future plans for Timmerman are to become a millwright with his education he gains from Sault College.
