Nipawin Evergreen Golf Course opening for season on May 7

Apr 28, 2021 | 5:00 PM

The Nipawin Evergreen Golf Course is getting set to open it’s course for the 2021 season.

May 7 is the plan for opening day of the course, according to Head Pro Derrick Tallon.

He said the May 7 opening is right around an average opening day for them as they usually get the course going in the first week of May. Tallon said there’s still a bit of snow on the course but crews are working to make sure the course is ready for opening day.

Courses weren’t allowed to open until May 15 last year due to COVID-19, and while courses are able to open on their own accord this year, much of the COVID-19 rules remain in place.

“Something that we’re going to have to do is just make sure that the congregating, and that sort of aspect of the game that everyone likes to do,” Tallon said. “It’s tough curb that and make sure that golf is the most important thing and people get out there in a safe manner.”

While many COVID-19 rules remain in place, there is hope to have some tournaments this year. Golf Saskatchewan says tournaments are allowed, so long as they follow public health guidelines.

Tallon said there is planning being done for a few tournaments this year, including the Bob Dow Memorial Tournament at the end of May. However, it won’t be a normal tournament as in the past.

“It will be a golf tournament,” he said. “But maybe not the same atmosphere as it has been in the past.”

The course is taking tee times for May 7, and it can be done by calling the course at 306-862-4811, or by going online and booking there. The driving range will also be open starting on Thursday.

Across the Northeast

Courses are slowly opening up throughout the northeast region as well.

Tisdale plans to open the course on April 29 with the lounge and kitchen being open. The range will also open at that time.

Humboldt has officially opened their course as of Wednesday, April 28 at noon.

Wakaw is opening their course on Friday, April 29.

St. Brieux Regional Park will have their course open on Monday, May 3.
