Pharmacy Pilot Program

Northeast pharmacies excited to be part of provincial vaccine pilot program

May 3, 2021 | 5:00 PM

Pharmacies in the northeast are happy to be part of the Government of Saskatchewan’s COVID-19 vaccine pilot program.

A total of 41 new pharmacies were announced on Monday, May 3, including Davis Rexall Drugs in Nipawin, and Lacroix Drug in Tisdale.

Rick Gaertner, store operator of Davis Rexall Drug in Nipawin said it’s good to see the vaccines getting out to more and more places.

“To see that people will have more than just public health to be able to access a vaccine,” he said. “I think will be helpful to the community.”

Gaertner added it will be nice to have another option in Nipawin for those who can’t get the the clinics or to other centres for their vaccine. Gaertner said the best ways to be part of the program and get your first shot is by reaching out through Facebook, calling the store, or simply walking in.

Jennifer Whiting, the pharmacy manager for Lacroix Drug in Tisdale, said it’s pretty exciting to be a part of the program.

“We’re excited to be able to help get the vaccines out there, be part of the solution to this pandemic,” she said. “And get as many people as we can vaccinated.”

Whiting added there’s been a number of calls from residents asking about the vaccines coming to their pharmacy.

Whiting said calling the store in Tisdale would be the best way to secure your spot.

The pilot program is only for first doses for the time being and the program will help the Saskatchewan Health Authority with data collection on how the vaccines in pharmacies work for more doses as the program progresses.
