Humboldt singer-songwriter competing in national music contest

May 21, 2021 | 5:00 PM

Humboldt singer-songwriter Graham Dyck is competing for a big prize in a national music contest.

Dyck is in the running for CBC Music’s Toyota Searchlight 2021 competition.

“It’s a logical step for an artist like myself to keep on progressing,” Dyck said. “It’s a natural and pretty organic thing to pursue for artists.”

Dyck entered his song “Walkin’ in the Rain” in the contest.

“I really like the song,” Dyck said. “It came out so well. It is a toe-tapper. I enjoy playing it so much because people just dance to it. They remember the words and they sing along when I play it live. I’ve really enjoyed the response from audiences with that one.”

The winner will receive several prizes including $2,500 worth of recording studio time and $2,500 worth of instruments or musical equipment.

“Winning this competition would be encouragement in your soul,” Dyck added. “I would know I’m on the right path and the work that I’m doing is really good. You just have this opportunity to impact people positively. I would look forward to that.”

The top 100 songs in the contest will be announced on June 1 and then people will be able to vote for who they would like to see advance to the next round.

Artists will be judged by industry professionals after the voting rounds.
