Humboldt bobsledder inducted into Sask. Sports Hall of Fame

Olympic bobsledder and Humboldt native Lyndon Rush has been inducted into the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame.

Rush said it’s an honour to be celebrated by his home province.

“People from Saskatchewan can look back at it, take credit for it, and remember it,” Rush said. “The man I became was totally shaped by where I grew up. There are not many places left in the world that have communities like Saskatchewan. I’m really lucky. I think that it’s really cool that people from Saskatchewan can kind of take some pride in what I accomplished.”

Rush won a bronze medal in the four-man bobsled event at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver.

“Small communities in Saskatchewan develop strong character and I think that was a big part of what helped me win my medal,” Rush added. “Being able to represent your country at the Olympics is a once in a lifetime opportunity and to win a medal in front of your home country was that much cooler. How often does your country host the Olympics?”

Rush also played football with the University of Saskatchewan Huskies from 2001-2005 and was named a Canada West all-star at defensive end in 2003.

He is currently the driving coach for Canada’s national bobsleigh team.

“I thought I was done but I got sucked right back in,” Rush said. “I’ve got a really good support group. It’s been good. I get a lot of time off. I get to spend a lot of time with my kids. I have four kids. I’m home from February to October. I’m a coach, dad and husband. That’s all I do.”
