Humboldt set to host U-18 Curling Provincials in December

The Humboldt Curling Club is getting set to host a provincial curling championship in 2021.

The club will be hosting the Under-18 Provincials for both boys and girls between December 27 and 30. Club president Jason Fleischhacker said it’s always great to have provincials coming to town.

“The more people we can get in the doors, the better, and there’s always some great curling when you get a provincial event,” he said. “So, we’re looking forward to having it.”

Fleischhackker added that it’s also a big plus for the community as people from across the province come for the tournament. He added that they always rely heavily on volunteers, and they will need to continue to do so for the event in December.

It’s also the first provincial championship being hosted by Humboldt since the 2018 Provincial Scotties. However, the club has hosted the Club Provincials, and a High School Championship in the past ten years.

“Humboldt has been very fortunate with some good curling going on in town,” Fleischhacker said.

The winners of the U-18 Provincials in Humboldt will go on to play in the U-18 Nationals in Timmins, Ont. in February 2022.
