Wynyard Kinettes hosting all day summer festival next Saturday

Jun 16, 2021 | 2:44 PM

The return of some events has the Wynyard Kinette Club busy with planning a summer festival.

The June 26 event will feature a drive-thru pancake breakfast followed by a parade, art nest, vendor fair, car show, smokin’ tires event and more.

Kinette member and acting president Melinda Hall told northeastNOW the festival is an effort to put some smiles back into the community.

“We felt the urge to plan this with it being such a long year of isolation,” Hall said. “We want to make it safe and we want to make it really fun, so hopefully we have picked events that people really enjoy.”

Another highlight is the dog group agility troupe performance.

“They do tricks and one of the dogs can take off her hat, socks, and go find her shoes, so it is quite fun,” Hall said.

There will also be a 4-H drill team performance that will include some young cowgirls doing a musical ride.

All of the events are free to attend, aside from the pancake breakfast and a catered supper in the evening. The supper meals of prime rib and chicken cordon bleu will need to be ordered ahead of Wednesday June 23.

The Wynyard pool is offering free swimming from 1:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., and maximum capacity is 100 people for the pool.

The Wynyard Kinette club currently only consists of four members, so they are being assisted by the Kinsmen, but are still in need of some volunteers to assist with the drive-thru pancake breakfast.

“It is quite an undertaking with having such a small club but as I said, we just really felt we needed to do something for the community,” Hall said. “We hope people will vote for their favourite car in the car show, do some shopping, see some dogs, see some horses, and just enjoy.”

All public health guidelines will be followed with hand sanitizing stations being set-up and masking when social distancing cannot be maintained.

A town-wide garage sale will be happening throughout the day as well.

On Friday night, the town of Wynyard will be hosting a movie on Main St. at 7:30 p.m.

The club is hosting a membership drive on June 30, in an effort to build up their numbers. Anyone wishing to join and find out more about Kinettes can text or call Hall at 306-560-8300.

Fundraisers that have been able to go forward for the club this year have been limited to online silent auctions, a 50/50 raffle, and, most recently, a toilet tag.

“The community seemed to really respond to the toilet tag and it actually raised over $4,000,” Hall said.

Toilet’s went from house to house and residents would pay a fee to have it removed and then tag another home.
