More artists than ever for Back Alley Tour in Melfort

Jul 12, 2021 | 4:54 PM

This year’s Back Alley Tour in Melfort will be the biggest ever.

There are over 30 artists and vendors that will be set-up behind the Northern Lights Gallery to showcase their work on Thursday from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Organizer and owner of the gallery Sandra Dancey told northeastNOW artists are coming from as far away as Regina and Saskatoon.

“The timing was in our favour this year with it being just after things are re-opening,” Dancey said. “There are lots of people that are anxious to get out and interact so the artists are happy to be there and there are more people coming from further away as well just to see.”

There will be wood turning and carving, pottery, glass fusion, jewelry and more. There will be buskers on hand throughout the evening as well.

The event is typically very well attended and Dancey is hoping to see many familiar and unfamiliar faces.

“It all depends on the day and time of year but given the amount of people that are on vacation, we do get lots of tourists passing through and they are able to do that again this year,” Dancey said.

Most artists will be set-up by 2 p.m. but there will be a few that aren’t able to come until a bit later.

“Busiest hours are usually when people get out of work at 5 p.m., plus the Legion is also serving barbecue ribs for supper so more tend to come at supper time,” Dancey said. “Don’t let that slow you down though, there is room for everyone, it is spaced out nicely.”

The Melfort Legion supper runs from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., which includes a half rack of ribs potato salad, coleslaw, bun, and dessert for $15.

There is still room for more artists to join in which are being added daily prior to the event.

“I like when there are more artists because they interact with each other, it brings more people in and makes it more fun, it’s just a really nice outdoor event for the summer,” Dancey said.

SaskTel is donating hotdogs to support the North East SPCA, so hotdog sales will be happening throughout the day as well. George Home Hardware, Darn Computers, and Nutters are helping to provide goodie bags for the artists that are coming out.

“We are excited for the support we have received and are excited for everyone to come see all of the talent there are in the neighbourhood,” she said.
