Arts Humboldt to celebrate 10 years of supporting talent in the city

There will be plenty of musical talent rocking Civic Park in Humboldt on Aug. 17.

The Arts Humboldt organization is celebrating 10 years of promoting the artistic talents in Humboldt and area with a concert featuring local musicians to celebrate a local arts group, said treasurer Brian Grest.

“It’s too bad we can’t get everyone on stage for something like this, but for this occasion we had to limit it to about six acts and that’s the reason we chose the acts we did, but we definitely purposely chose local acts to make sure we celebrate local arts.”

Arts Humboldt was formed in June of 2011 as a way to, “connect existing arts related groups with each other for the purpose of sharing in the common goal of promoting arts and culture to our citizens,” according to their website.

There is so much more talent in Humboldt and area than people realize, Grest told northeastNOW, and maybe even more than they are able to promote with Arts Humboldt. The talent is there, he said.

One highlight for Grest has been the support of the Missoula Children’s Theatre in the city.

The company based out of Missoula, Mont. travels around the United States and Canada to spend a week creating a full theatre experience for school aged children.

There was a five or six year gap when Missoula was not in Humboldt, said Grest, and it was Arts Humboldt that made sure the city was on the tour schedule.

“That was one of the initial reasons that Arts Humboldt formed,” said Grest, as well as to advocate for the arts community and a new theatre location after Sutherland Theatre was torn down with the Humboldt Public School in 2014.

“There was really not a good voice in the community to speak towards that. It just kind of happened.”

After a year and a half of not having any kind of concerts in Humboldt, Grest is just happy they get to get together to celebrate.

“This is quite refreshing to finally be able to provide something, especially a live performance in front of hopefully a couple 100 people,” Grest said.

Concert goers are advised to bring their own chairs with the six-act concert starting at 7 p.m. in Civic Park at the corner of Highways 5 and 20.
