Volunteers needed for Melfort Multi-K

Sep 8, 2021 | 5:00 PM

Race day is just 10 days away and the committee with the Melfort Multi-K is looking for help.

The event next Saturday features a kids fun run, a 5k, 10k, and 21.1k run. Course marshals are needed to help direct runners to ensure they are safe and directing traffic if there are any near the course.

Race director Allison Rogers said helping out on the course is about a three-hour time commitment.

“We start at 8:30 and we’re usually wrapped up by 11:30,” Rogers said. “Some of those jobs get sent home early because the course closes as the morning progresses.”

Around 20 course marshals are needed to make the event a success.

People are also needed for handing out medals on the day, as well as for package pick-up on Friday night and package stuffing on the Thursday night prior to the event.

“Anyone that helps out will get a coupon from TJ’s Pizza for a slice of pizza and a drink,” Rogers said.

Registration is at just shy of 500 participants which Rogers said was higher than expected. Registration has been extended and is open until midnight tonight.

Things will run a bit different than in previous years.

“We will release those details a bit later, but we are taking the COVID situation seriously and doing what we can to keep everyone healthy and happy,” Rogers said. “Things will look a little bit different that morning but it is just to keep everyone safe.”

Anyone wanting to get involved as a volunteer can sign up at melfortmultik.ca.

“We usually have close to 100 volunteers on the day, and we couldn’t do it without them,” she said.
