Fuel Good Day

Co-op Fuel Good Day to support local charities

Sep 20, 2021 | 5:00 PM

The purchase of fuel at co-op gas bars on Tuesday will benefit local charities.

The fifth annual Co-op Fuel Good Day will see 10 cents from every litre of fuel sold donated to charities in Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, and northwestern Ontario.

Prairie North Co-op (PNC) general manager Terry Tremblay told northeastNOW the Melfort and Kelvington Agriculture Societies and the St. Brieux and Archerwill rodeo grounds are this year’s recipients.

“We recognize that they have went two years without a fair and have had almost no revenue generating possibilities,” Tremblay said. “It made a perfect partnership.”

PNC has gas bars in Melfort, Archerwill, Kelvington, Naicam, Spalding, and St. Brieux.

Charity barbecues will take place at each location over the lunch as well and $1 from every Co-op coffee and big cool slush drink will go toward the cause.

“Last year PNC raised $10,000 and we are confident we will raise that much or more again this year,” Tremblay said.

Over the past four years over $40,000 has been given to charities in the area.

“We take pride in that we focus on charities that support the communities that we serve,” Tremblay said.

Other Co-op locations in the northeast will support charities through fuel sales.

Lake Country Co-op has selected the Kinistino and Nipawin Kinsmen clubs, Prince Albert Creative Kids, Big River Delaronde Lake Marina Inc., and La Ronge/Air Ronge Men of the North as 2021 recipients.

Beeland Co-op will donate funds to the Tisdale Dance Centre, Tisdale Fire Department, and Bjorkdale Skating and Curling Rink from fuel sold at the Tisdale Gas Bar, as well as Arborfield and Bjorkdale stores.

The Hudson Bay Ski Cub and Quilly Willy Early Learning and Childcare Centre will benefit from sales at Parkland Co-op gas bar locations.
