The Hudson Bay Aquatic Centre is closed for the summer but fundraising for a new facility will continue during the off season.

The committee began raising funds a couple of years ago for the project that is expected to cost around $2 million.

Committee President Meagan Dickson told northeastNOW they were approved for a federal and provincial grant.

“We are looking at raising another couple hundred thousand dollars to get us to our end goal,” Dickson said.

A Saskatchewan Roughriders block party kick started the campaign in 2018. Since then, a wing night and several barbecue fundraisers have been hosted by the committee.

Hudson Bay Fire Rescue also hosted a 50/50 draw this summer which brought in over $1,700 for the project as well.

“Right now, we have an exclusive club too so if someone donates a minimum of $1,000 to the project, they will be added to the club which is a feature on the wall at the new pool,” Dickson said.

Donations can be made through e-transfer or the Town of Hudson office will also accept donations on behalf of the committee.

A new swimming pool, office, change rooms and mechanical room will be built where the existing 40-year-old facility is now located.

The plan is to begin construction in the fall of 2022 to be completed and ready to open for the summer of 2023.
