Mustangs down Hawks, get three points in weekend set
The Melfort Mustangs gave their home fans a show on Saturday, Oct. 2 as they took on the Nipawin Hawks. The hometown Mustangs beat the Hawks 4-2, just one night after a 3-2 shootout loss in Nipawin.
Just five minutes into the hockey game, Curtis Hammond opened the scoring for Melfort, his fourth goal of the year. That started a trend of swapping goals throughout the contest as Phil Laberge would tie things up halfway through the period, but Trenton Curtis would make it 2-1 after one period.
A Dawson Brace powerplay goal tied things up in the second, but Seth McCulloch’s fourth of the year put the Mustangs back on top for good.
“It’s my third year in the league, I’ve had some pretty good veterans throughout my years,” McCulloch said. “I’ve just taken what they’ve told me and what they showed me and put it into my own game.”
