Win/loss in Warman

Split for Broncos as they wrap up showcase showing

Oct 7, 2021 | 2:02 PM

Once again the Humboldt Broncos are splitting the difference as the team went 1-1 in two games at the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League Showcase in Warman this past week.

Two unanswered goals in the first period were blows they could not recover from as the Broncos lost to the Weyburn Red Wings on Oct. 4.

The Red Wing’s Dante Ballarin and Brandon Kasdorf struck first late in the first with Jacob Jakusz kicking off the second with Weyburn’s third goal.

Alec Saretzky answered back a few minutes later for the start of his Broncos hat trick as he would also be credited with the Broncos only other two goals of the game, both of them on the power play.

However, Weyburn would remain a step ahead and answer back with goals of their own and would take the W in a 5-3 win.

Liam Stevens would start the game in the Broncos net only to be replaced by Rayce Ramsay at the start of the second following the Jakusz goal.

The Broncos would have some time to rest before their 10 a.m. game against the Estevan Bruins on Oct. 6.

Once again another Broncos hat trick was in the works as Connor McGrath would start the Broncos off with two goals late in the first and one early in the second. Estevan would answer back as the Broncos headed into the third period up by one with a 3-2 lead.

That is where the game would end as both teams held their own in the third with no goals and no penalties.

Scouts from USports, the NCAA and more will be in attendance looking for the next great players for their programs.

The Broncos will next be facing the Battlefords North Stars for a home and home series. Humboldt will be travelling to the northwest for a game on Friday with Battleford heading to Humboldt for the Oct. 8 contest.
