Rotary Park Vandalism

Melfort’s Rotary Park continues to be vandalized

Oct 8, 2021 | 12:32 PM

Rotary Park in Melfort has been vandalized for the second time this year.

Several of the Disc Golf tees have been vandalized, according to Gail Marie Anderson, Public Relations for the Rotary Club of Melfort.

“Disc Golf is set up over there and a lot of people play it. Unfortunately, the vandals broke off a number of the metal signs on the Disk Golf route,” Anderson said.

Rotary Park in Melfort features a nine-hole course which is free for the public to play.

In spite of the missing numbers, visitors to the park can still play Disc Golf as the baskets are still in place.

The vandalism was reported on Tuesday, and Rotarians have been working hard to find a solution for reinstalling the signs in a way that won’t allow for future vandalism.

“Were going to modify the designs so they won’t be able to do the same things,” Anderson said.

Rotarians want vandals to know that destroying park activities will not have a positive outcome.

“It would be nice if people could learn vandalism has no good end to it. It just means work for people to correct it and its usually senseless,” Anderson told northeastNOW. “It’s unfortunate. Someone must have worked really hard to get those down.”

The park hopes to install the new signs as soon as possible for all visitors to enjoy.

Despite the vandalism, the park will remain open to the public.

“The park is opened and anyone can enjoy it. We just hope people take care of it,” Anderson said.
