Mustangs looking to continue hot stretch with tough matchup with Stars

Oct 13, 2021 | 3:08 PM

The 7-1-0-1 Melfort Mustangs have won five games in a row and are looking to make it six on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at Melfort’s Northern Lights Palace.

Standing in their way is a Battlefords North Stars team that is also off to a very good start. The Stars are 5-3-1-0 to start the year and they’ve scored the most goals in the league to this point.

Mustang forward Carter Anderson said the team is confidence with their hot stretch but they know what’s in front of them on Wednesday.

“They’re real physical,” Anderson said. “They’re obviously a top contender in the league, so it would be a huge two points if we get it.”

Anderson was also named Forward of the Week in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) after he notched eight points in four games during the week, which included a pair of games at the SJHL Showcase in Warman. Anderson called it a privilege to be mentioned among the leagues best.

“Real nice playing with my linemates [Marco] Lopez, and [Curtis] Hammond,” he said. “We had a real good week as a line I thought, and it probably could’ve gone to either of them as well.”

Ben Tkachuk was named runner-up for MVP of the Week, Lucas Ochitwa was runner-up for Defenceman of the Week, and Joel Favreau was the runner-up for Goalie of the Week.
