Carlton Trail College appoints new president and CEO

Oct 19, 2021 | 5:56 PM

The Board of Directors of Carlton Trail College has announced the retirement of president and CEO Shelley Romanyszyn-Cross, after 20 years of service. Romanyszyn-Cross, a resident of Watrous, was promoted to the positions in 2016.

Board of Directors Chair, Adrienne Jackson, says Romanyszyn-Cross will be missed.

“Shelley has, over the course of her career, established herself as a knowledgeable and well-regarded professional within the post-secondary sector in Saskatchewan,” she said. “As a Board, we were pleased with the success and advances she achieved in recent years, including navigating the college through the pandemic and wish her all the best.”

Romanyszyn-Cross is proud of her career with Carlton Trail College, and of the staff with whom she has worked.

“We have a very professional organization, with dedicated leadership, administrative staff and instructors, all committed to delivering safe, inclusive and meaningful education and training for students,” Romanyszyn-Cross said. “I will certainly miss my colleagues and celebrating student achievements, but I feel my work with them – and the many relationships I have established – have prepared me to pursue further professional goals in the broader educational community in Saskatchewan.”

Amy Yeager, Carlton Trail College’s vice president of administration, has been appointed interim president and CEO.

“On behalf of our Board of Directors,” Jackson said. “We are delighted to appoint Amy Yeager as president and CEO, succeeding Shelley Romanyszyn-Cross. Amy is a proven advisor who has helped deliver strong operational results through her commitment to our staff and students and we look forward to working with her.”

“I am honoured to step in as the College’s next CEO and want to thank both Shelley and the board for the confidence they have placed in me to lead this organization,” Yeager said. “I welcome working with Ms. Jackson as board chair, as well as the larger college team, as we continue to advance the goals of the organization.”

Both Yeager and Romanyszyn-Cross had great words to say about each other, as they complimented the time they shared together and the knowledge that was transferred both ways.

Yeager told northeastNOW Romanyszyn-Cross had taught her a lot and that she felt prepared because of the ways that Romanyszyn-Cross had mentored her.

“Shelley and I had a really close working relationship, as she had with all of our leadership team members,” Yeager said. “We relied on each other for advice and to move the college in a really good direction and she has absolutely done that. At the end of the day, obviously, we’re very different people and I have a vision of where I’d like to take the college, but all of the experience and everything I’ve learned from her along the way is definitely an asset and has prepared me for this role for sure.”

When speaking with Romanyszyn-Cross, she said she holds Yeager in very high regards and knows she has been preparing for this for a long time and was absolutely the right choice.

“She is an incredibly smart woman,” Romanyszyn-Cross said. “She’s passionate about what she does, passionate about the college, she understands the system and she gets stuff done. I think she’d been a leader at the college, a significantly important leader, for a number of years and this is just a natural step for her as she progresses further in her career and it is a great way for the college to continue to do the great work that it does, having Amy at the helm.”

For Yeager, being appointed interim president and CEO, means she will serve a one-year contract and then a decision will be made by the board, whether or not she continues on with that position.
