Shorebird Inn at Tobin Lake issued another fine for COVID-19 violations

The owner of the Shorebird Inn at Tobin Lake near Nipawin is facing another COVID-19 related fine.

According to a release from the Saskatchewan Health Authority on Tuesday, public health inspectors issued several fines during the week of Oct. 25.

A corporate ticket was given to the Shorebird for failure to screen for proof of vaccination or negative test. The voluntary payments option for the $14,000 corporate fine will not be available due to previous tickets.

A court appearance will be required this time to speak to the charge.

In March, Owner Bryan Baranski was fined for failing to collect names, numbers, and addresses of customers entering his establishment.

An outbreak was declared at the Inn and it was forced to close to allow staff to isolate. Fifteen cases of COVID-19 were linked to the outbreak.

In a previous interview with northeastNOW – from his hospital bed after contracting COVID-19, Baranski admitted he had not always worn a mask either, having effects on those around him. Customers soon began to be relaxed with wearing masks in the establishment as well.

Baranski was also ticketed in January from an incident in December of 2020 where it was noted that he was not wearing a mask in violation of public health orders at the time.

Two individual fines of $2,800 were also issued at Tobin Lake for failing to wear a mask during the week of Oct. 25.
