“We’re pretty positive”: Mustangs hoping to get out of slide with matchup against Bombers

Nov 3, 2021 | 10:00 AM

The Melfort Mustangs welcome the Flin Flon Bombers to the Northern Lights Palace on Wednesday, Nov. 3 as the Mustangs continue a four game home stand.

It’s the first meeting between the Sherwood Division rivals since the opening weekend of the season when they split the home and home set with wins on home ice.

Since then, Flin Flon has compiled a 12-5-0-0 record, good for second place in the SJHL.

On the other side, the Mustangs had a five game win streak at one point, but have come back down to earth with a 10-6-0-1 record overall, but only holding a 5-5 record in their last 10 games.

“We’re pretty positve right now,” said Mustangs captain Ben Tkachuk. “Obviously we’ve lost four out of our last five, but we just have to keep playing our game and eventually it’s going to come and we’re going to get out of this slide.”

The Mustangs are coming off a 3-1 loss to the Battlefords North Stars, and Tkachuk said with the current stretch, it’s more a disappointment with the results as opposed to frustration with their play.

A battle against the Flin Flon Bombers is a great opportunity to snap this skid, he said.

“Flin Flon’s obviously a really strong team, divisional game,” he said. “So, it’s going to be fun playing at home on a Wednesday night but I think we’ll come out with a win.”

It’s the Mustangs only game of the week as they won’t play again until Wednesday, Nov. 10 against the La Ronge Ice Wolves in Melfort.

Puck drop on Wednesday is 7:30 p.m.
